You asked to see today summarized before you dive back in. Start at the top. Three things want you; everything below that is context.
Built 11:58, while you were reading. Nothing here has been sent to anyone, and nothing is approved.
Start here
Three items. Two take under a minute. The third is a question for John, not work for you.
Proven
All four were checked against the real thing, not against a build log.
It did not exist here this morning. First check said the camera was not even on the USB bus. It is now a working pipeline feeding your meeting app, and it ran unbroken from 9:55 to the end of the 2h18m call.
The cause was a high ISO baked in early while the room was dark. As the light came up it blew out. Recalibrated to the lowest ISO and measured on the real camera, not assumed: brightness now sits mid-range instead of near-white. You can now change exposure from the menu mid-call without touching the body.
The first attempt captured total silence on both channels because the Bluetooth headset had no mic profile. Caught and fixed before the call, and both channels verified carrying real signal. The finished file is complete and playable.
Your purpose, the two things you explicitly rejected, and the tension you named yourself — that the purpose-aligned work is the unpaid work — all recorded in your own words with dates, not paraphrased. Plus the mechanism to notice when you start diverging from your own baseline.
49 tests, none failing, up from 33. They cover the new exposure switching and the preview snapshot, including the rule that the preview can never steal the feed.
Built and shipped: an Electron tuner at canon-webcam-tuner, launched from the tray. Real moving live video, not a still. Independent shutter, aperture, and ISO sliders built from the camera's own reported stop lists, not a fake range. A live brightness readout computed from the actual frame. A warning when the aperture is set too narrow for the room, named after the exact incident that caused it.
Reached a verdict: no restart is needed. The real limitation is the gphoto2 command-line tool, not the underlying driver and not your camera body. Two other Linux apps (obs-gphoto, Entangle) already change shutter/aperture/ISO live, mid-stream, on the same kind of connection this camera uses.
In flight
None of these are finished. Each one is waiting on something specific.
The concept site now has an owner and a fully mapped safe path to add a section without wiping the other seven. Waiting on: your call on whether it is worth building at all, given John only said "I'm not opposed to that."
A specification exists for what a processed meeting must always produce: pending decisions first, action items split by who is waiting, and content pushed into the agent that will act on it rather than a note file nobody opens. Waiting on: nothing built yet.
The call
A working session on John's Meta Intelligence talk. The useful output is mostly what got ruled out.
No deliverable, no date, nothing you owe John or Bob. Your contributions stayed at the idea level. Worth knowing before you re-enter the day braced for homework.
Ruled out: a "sign up today" pressure close, killed on the spot as insulting. Also ruled out: mailing people a book, roughly a thousand dollars and probably unread. Landed on: no pitch during the talk at all, then a free no-pressure opt-in to the weekly email list he already sends clients, with a soft mention of the immersion in the email signature.
Wave and river framing, or straight into client stories, or a blend. Leaning blend. Spectrum looks like the strongest anchor story; Grainger and Darnell still need third-party permission.
Drifted off the talk into vulnerability, family, faith, a dream Bob had. Real, but not business, and deliberately kept out of the business notes rather than blended in.
Plainly
Five things. None of them cost you a client, but you should know all five.
First attempt recorded pure silence on both channels — the Bluetooth headset was output-only. Caught before the call started, not after. The lesson is recorded: the recorder's own startup message names the device it intended to use, and is not proof audio is flowing.
Restarts at 9:53 and 9:55 while the call was already underway. It then held steady for the remaining hour and a half. The underlying cause of the brightness hunting is physical: the mode dial is in an auto mode and the camera's own firmware re-meters constantly. Software cannot override it.
While trying to click your tray icon to verify the new menu. It was cleared immediately and the attempt abandoned rather than repeated. This is why item 02 above is yours to glance at.
The work was re-done a different way rather than left half-finished. Nothing was lost.
The check that stops a session telling you something is still on your plate after you already handled it cannot run here at all — the tool and its receipt both live only on the desktop. Two other checks are similarly absent. They are not erroring; they are silently doing nothing, which is worse. The recommended fix is to have the laptop run the check over SSH on demand rather than adding another sync.
It did still get answered today, the hard way: the check was run on the desktop directly. Kristin's Monday afternoon ask is genuinely unanswered — confirmed against sent mail across all three accounts, not guessed from an unread flag.
